Join the 4-H Family
Ah yes, 4-H. We talk about it quite a lot in Extension. You’ve probably seen the green clover on our website and around your community. You might even know some 4-H’ers who talk about how much they love being a member. But what exactly is it?
4-H is a hands-on learning and educational program for students 5-18 years old that teaches life skills like responsibility, resiliency and hard work…all while having fun!
Here are a few quick facts about 4-H:
- The 4 Hs stand for head, heart, hands, and health. In 4-H, you’ll learn how to use your head for clearer thinking, heart for greater loyalty, hands for larger service, and health for better living.
- 4-H has a wide variety of activities to participate in. There’s livestock, technology, leadership, service and archery, only to name only a few.
- There are two different types of 4-H clubs: general interest clubs and special interest clubs. What’s the difference? A special interest club focuses on one project, like robotics. A general interest club, on the other hand, offers a variety of activities to participate in.
- The 4-H slogan is “Learn by doing.” 4-H’ers participate in hands-on activities, known as projects. These projects are often goal oriented and are loads of fun! You’ll also get to meet other 4-H’ers who are interested in the same hobbies.
- Here’s some great news: 4-H does not charge membership dues.
