Row Crop Field Day set for Aug. 8
VERONA -- Farmers from across the state can learn the latest research results and recommendations at the upcoming North Mississippi Research and Extension Center Agronomic Row Crop Field Day.
The event will take place Aug. 8 at the Lee County AgriCenter on Highway 145, south of Verona.
"We believe we will have a very educational field day. This is a chance for growers to keep on the cutting edge of farming technology," said event coordinator Normie Buehring, senior agronomist and superintendent of the Northeast Mississippi Branch Experiment Station.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. along with various educational and commercial
exhibits. On the agenda are many events to inform area farmers, such as panel group discussions and tours of field research plots. The field day will conclude about 1:30 p.m.
Topics to be covered in this year's event will include Roundup-resistant weed management, crop and weed response to different Roundup formulations, corn borer insect management, early soybean production system for maturity Group V soybeans in North Mississippi, and skip-row cotton production.
Also included in the day's activities will be the lunch keynote speaker, Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Lester Spell.
