Brown Loam Station sets hay day program
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- The Brown Loam Branch Experiment Station's annual Cattlemen's Field and Hay Day is scheduled for Aug. 14.
The experiment station is located off Hwy 18 west of Raymond in the Oakley community.
Registration is at 8 a.m. and the program begins at 8:30 with a beef quality assurance injection site lesion demonstration by Dr. Terry Engelken of Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Brandon Carter with Elanco.
The morning program also includes a presentation on heifer development by MSU animal scientists Rhonda Vann, Jane Parish and Blair McKinley. Animal scientist Mike Boyd will give a corn grazing presentation.
Richard Watson with the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences with give reports on strip grazing with summer annuals during the morning session and managing for hay quality following lunch.
Food vendors will have a variety of lunch items available for purchase.
The program will conclude with a 2 p.m. demonstration of hay mowers, rakes, tedders and balers.
The Cattlemen's Field and Hay Day is sponsored by the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, the MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi Cattlemen's Association.
