MSU Collegiate 4-H to host conference
MISSISSIPPI STATE -- Two years of hard work and commitment to reactivate Mississippi State University’s 4-H chapter paid off when the Southern Region Collegiate 4-H selected the club to host its 2009 annual conference.
Representatives of collegiate 4-H clubs from 13 states will take part in workshops and participate in several service projects.
“We’re excited to be hosts and continue the tradition of excellence that we have experienced in Mississippi 4-H,” said MSU chapter president Terrence Norwood, 21, a senior secondary education major from Harrisville. “We have great 4-H members here at Mississippi State, as well as the members in clubs throughout the region.”
Workshops will focus on ways to build involvement between 4-H clubs and the communities they serve. Topics include portable media player technology, self defense techniques and robotics. Participants will also create hero packs for children of parents serving in the armed forces overseas.
“Our club has worked really hard to create a conference that will be unforgettable,” said chapter adviser John Long, an MSU 4-H youth development specialist. “This is indicative of the caliber of students we attract.”
