MSU Extension sets date for Robotics Academy
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Summer camp is going high tech for Mississippi teachers, senior 4-H’ers, and 4-H agents and volunteers.
The Mississippi State University Extension Service will host the second annual Robotics Academy July 27-30 at the Bost Extension Center on the MSU main campus. Participants will learn how to plan a robotics program, how to host a robotics camp, how to plan a successful fundraising campaign, and how to use 4-H robotics and coding in the school setting.
Attendees can choose from four educational tracks:
- Cloverbud Robotics, with Mariah Morgan of the MSU Extension Service, for those who plan to work with 5- to 8-year-olds;
- Code.org, with Kimberly Lane, a representative of this nonprofit computer science support organization, for those interested in teaching kids how to write code;
- Junior Robotics, with Eddie Melton of the Army Corps of Engineers, for those interested in NXT-G; and
- Senior Robotics, with Mannie Lowe of the University of Mississippi and Jacob Mason of MSU, for those who want to learn Java for Snapdragon.
Teachers and volunteers interested in attending the Robotics Academy must partner with an attending Extension agent. Teachers can receive continuing education units.
The $90 registration fee covers materials, lunch and a T-shirt. Seating is very limited.
