STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State University Extension Service invites private landowners to a workshop to learn about the benefits prescribed burns provide for wildlife habitat.

The prescribed burning workshop will be held at the Black Prairie Wildlife Management Area in Crawford, Mississippi, on Feb. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Experienced fire practitioners will be available to explain timber management, burning techniques, liability considerations, and burning to accomplish objectives and attract wildlife. Weather permitting, the event will conclude with a prescribed burn demonstration.

The $10 registration fee includes lunch. Payment can be made at the event, but preregistration is required and must be done by Feb. 13. Email Reid Nevins, MSU Extension agent in Lowndes County, at [email protected], or call 662-328-2111 to register.

The Black Prairie Wildlife Management Area is on 1350 Fire Tower Road in Crawford.

Personnel with MSU Extension, the Mississippi Forestry Association, the Mississippi Forestry Commission, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Mississippi Prescribed Fire Council, and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks will teach the workshop.
